"As we navigate through the ever-evolving landscape of the Kenyan hospitality industry, it is imperative that we remain steadfast in our commitment to sustainable tourism practices. In recent years, there has been a noticeable shift towards eco-friendly initiatives and responsible travel. At Bonfire Adventures, we recognize the importance of preserving our environment and supporting local communities. From implementing waste reduction strategies to promoting cultural immersion experiences, we are dedicated to ensuring that our operations align with the principles of sustainability.

I commend Sopa Lodges for their efforts in environmental conservation through various initiatives, including partnerships with communities around them for cleaning, tree planting, supporting girls and women through education and distribution of re-usable sanitary towels. As we continue to adapt to the changing needs of our guests, we are proud to lead the way in promoting a more environmentally conscious approach to tourism in Kenya." - Simon Kabu, CEO of Bonfire Adventures.

Sopa Lodges Land Life Padmad

We are excited to update you on our recent collaboration with our sustainability arm, Land and Life Foundation in partnership with PadMad; this collaboration marks the launch of our sustainability initiative, aimed at addressing menstrual health challenges in the Maasai Mara region. The initiative aims to distribute reusable sanitary towels that are locally and sustainably manufactured, while integrating essential educational components.

Our project's partner, PadMad, a social enterprise dedicated to period dignity is instrumental in this initiative. PadMad specializes in offering free Menstrual Health Management, Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights workshops, producing reusable, biodegradable pads certified by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), and providing employment opportunities to marginalized women.

The project aims to impact over 500 students at Oloolaimutia school and over 300 women residing within the five villages within the Siana Conservancy – Maasai Mara. A number of our staff members have been empowered as ambassadors to continue educating the beneficiaries as part of the project’s long-term sustainability plan.

This initiative highlights our dedication to sustainable development and social responsibility, marking a significant step towards addressing menstrual health challenges in the Maasai Mara region.
